
Students are actively preparing for the SkillsUSA competition next month! Two students will represent cosmetology at the event. Ayanna Clyburn will be competing in the nails division, while McKenzie McAnulty will compete in the hair division. We wish these two young ladies good luck!



A group from the Career Center faculty and staff were part of the lunch crew for the professional development day on Monday February 19. This group assisted Chef Hawkes and his students with preparing the food, beverages, plates, and all logistics of feeding over 700 teachers across the district! It was a busy day!











From design to finished product....Family and Consumer Science (FACS) 1 students have been learning about basic sewing construction skills. They designed their own projects and sewed a "pillow" using basic stitches like backstitch, running stitch, ladder stitch, blanket stitch, and whip stitch. They loved seeing their designs come to life! Look at those proud faces!

Quick grill update!
Welding students have been steadily working on this custom grill. They have finished up most of the fab work on it. Next up is paint! Be sure to check back later to see the completed project! Another new experience for some students! Horticulture students learned zero turn mower operations last week in class. They were able to go outside and put their skills to the test!

Our carpentry students, with the guidance of Mr. Sowell, are building an enclosure around the vending machines in the lobby. Check out the progress they have made so far!

57 Cadillac Update
Students have been repairing the body damages to the rear of the Cadillac. The rear half has been primed with urethane high build primer. In addition students have learned how to correct old body repairs with MIG welding. This is important to know as those types of repairs are not used in the industry anymore.








Our programs offer students new experiences. Horticulture students have the opportunity to learn basic safety procedures and how to operate farm equipment. Most recently students focused on tractor operations.







Nothing says Happy Valentine's Day more than a box of chocolates! Culinary Arts students had the opportunity to experience making chocolate candies! Flavors included chocolate truffle, strawberry cream, and caramel!







The SkillsUSA competition is coming up next month. We have several programs that will send students to compete. Over the next week we will spotlight those students. First up is Vanessa Gutierrez-Arias, a mechatronics student, preparing for competition!

Tuesday's Fun Fact


Advanced Personal Finance students explored how technology has changed over the years while searching for careers of interest. They also used this time to practice what was learned about protecting their identities from fraud or theft. The students created career vision boards to display their findings about the careers. The students used O'Net website to see job qualifications, skills, and education needed to obtain the job of interest.
