The National Guard came to visit some classes last week on Thursday and Friday to talk to students about the Guard and how it can benefit them in the future!

Students from Mrs. Chelsea Davis' Child Development class concluded their work-based learning experience at Southside today with mock interviews conducted by the Southside staff. Over the past few months, the students have made several visits to Southside, where they applied the teaching strategies they’ve learned in their Child Development course. Mrs. Paula Lail, Work-Based Learning Coordinator, and Mrs. Kristie Davis, Instructional Coach, accompanied them.

Since Administrative Professionals Day is next Wednesday, April 23 - and we will be on Spring Break - we want to take the time today to recognize and honor our team of administrative professionals that keep the Career Center running each day! Thank you all for your hard work and dedication!

Law Enforcement Services 2 students enjoyed a field trip on March 26 to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Academy & the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame. Completion of this academy is mandatory for all South Carolina Police Officers and Correctional Officers. The students spent the entire day on the field trip touring the compound’s various training sites and participating in a Crime Scene Investigation practical exercise. The students also got the chance to tour, witness, or interact with the following: information session on the mission of the academy, crime scene walk through, force on force shoot house, tour of advance forensics academy, physical ability test course, and a dorm tour. Somehow, there’s a feeling, the cafeteria was their highlight. Thank you to MAJ Florence McCants of the South Carolina Justice Academy for her support and coordination to make this field trip happen.

The Ambush Club's March main presentation consisted of a men’s fashion showcase. The demonstration focused on how to wear a suit from head to toe, plus proper care for each individual piece of the suit. The mentees also walked away with a free tie thanks to the main presenter, Mr. Henry Jones (a local Gospel promoter). We'd also like to thank local business consultant, Mr. Kevin Gray & motivational speaker & business owner, Mr. Stephen Loney for devoting their time and resources with the Ambush Club.

On Wednesday, April 2nd, 40 students in grades 11 and 12 participated in the "Find Your Future" Event at LCSD Career Center. Paula Stegall Lail, Ronald Cunningham, and Ezra Cunningham organized this event to provide students with information about college, career, and military options after graduation. Four military branches (Army, Navy, Marines, and National Guard), 3 colleges (York Tech, USCL, and Clinton), and SCWorks all provided useful and relevant information to help guide students in making decisions about their lives after graduation. And, most importantly, students were served ChickFilA lunches at the conclusion of the event.
