As 2023 comes to an end, we hope this year has been the best yet for each of you! Enjoy if you are out celebrating, but please be safe! We want to see all of you in 2024!
Students in Mr. Catoe's Automotive Tech class worked on getting the headlights on this old Chevy working the week before Christmas. Other students in the class worked on replacing the carburetor on this zero turn mower!
One of the most popular programs at the Career Center is welding! Students were hard at work on their practical final exam the week before Christmas!
Auto collision students learned how to fix a leaky sunroof! Mr. Yarborough is explaining the common issues with leaky sunroofs and how to find where the problem is. He also explained to the students how to fix the issue!

That's a wrap on 8th grade tours for the 2023-2024 school year!
We can not say thank you enough to our ambassadors for all they did during the 8th grade tours! These young women were the face of the Career Center when each 8th grader from the district came to visit! To show appreciation for all their hard work they celebrated with a pizza lunch!
They will continue to serve as ambassadors as needed for events throughout the remainder of the school year! The next big event for them will the be the 8th, 9th, and 10th Grade Parent Night in January!
Culinary students had a chance to put their skills to use on building gingerbread houses this week!

In the spirit of the season, she asked her students to share how they would show kindness during the holidays! Students had some great answers! This was the students warm up before their lesson on the 20/10 Rule for credit usage!

Our staff also enjoyed a catered lunch from Empire Pizza as part of their Christmas celebration!
Greg Brasington, Lancaster County EMS Special Operations Coordinator, spent time with our Health Science 1 students last week. He was here to instruct them on Stop the Bleed. We are able to have guest instructors like this thanks to great partnerships with community organizations and industries. Thank you Mr. Brasington for taking the time to visit and share your experience and expertise!
Congratulations to the Culinary Arts Management 2 students! They had 100% pass rate on the ServSafe certification exam. Chef Hawkes said, "This is very exciting as nationally less than 50% of high school students pass."
To add a little fun and motivation to a stressful situation, Chef Hawkes put himself on the line. If all students passed the certification exam, he would either shave his beard or have it colored rainbow with leopard print! He held true to his offer. See the picture for his new look!
Dr. Fitzpatrick, the new LCSD superintendent, visited the Career Center today, December 12, 2023. He was able to meet with our administrative team and visit a few classes. We look forward to having him back in the new year for a more in depth visit with the faculty and staff!

The halls were filled with excitement as tours continued for the 8th graders from ILMS.
Today was day 1 of Indian Land Middle School 8th grade tours! The students were able to visit 10 different pathways, where they learned more about careers and opportunities available to them! All of these programs will be available to them as 9th graders next year!
We look forward to 2 more days of ILMS 8th graders visiting us!
Here's an update on the Medical Terminology pumpkin contest from October. The winners were the group of Brynn Carnes, Sydnee Rollings, and Emmie Vaughn. They are pictured left to right. Check out their winning pumpkin!
Huge shout out to the SC National Guard! They came through big time for the Career Center at the last minute on a Friday! These guys got the call about the Career Center on Thursday night and got a plan together to spend the day with our students on Friday. We appreciate everything they do for our school, our students, and our state! Help us show them some appreciation!
When emergencies happen, it's important to be prepared! That's exactly how the Culinary Arts classes approached today! They were able to try some MREs, which were also made available by the SC National Guard. When asked if this was the original plan for today, Chef Hawkes was quoted as saying "originally planned to have the intro students work on Yielding with fruits, level 1's prepping for two lunches next week and level 2's studying for the ServSafe Manager certification." We believe it is important to show students how to respond to unexpected changes because that is real life!
Students and staff made the best of a bad situation when they were displaced from the Career Center on Friday, December 1 due to a fire. Everyone spent the day in the multipurpose building where the SC National Guard had games and an obstacle course set up. Some students used the time to catch up on assignments, while others enjoyed the fun activities. Thank you to the students for being flexible and well-behaved on this out of the ordinary day. Also, thank you to the SC National Guard for all they did!
